Chapter 1 part 1 - The Drhellzerker

It is my fault.

The same thought raced through his mind as he ran after hoodlums. Despite the heavy rain and the fog, his vision is more blurred by sweat and tears. He has run throughout the night. Chasing, yet never ever reaching his quarry. Eight brigands broke into his home a little over a year ago. His wife fought them off with her command of seed-dolls but was not strong enough to protect their young. Where was her husband?

It is my fault.

The enutrof have spent his life increasing his own fortune. Making deals, farming and re-selling things of value. He can call himself rich now, but it never was enough. His business-minded personality is what attracted his sadida wife to him, but as time goes on, it was also the one trait she now despises.

It is my fault.

He raced through the Amaknan fields after hearing that another kidnapping happened a few towns away from where they used to live. He wanders now, looking for scraps of news and rumors about the riktus group. He lost everything that fateful day, his home, his sanity but most of all his family.

It is my fault.

His wife, filled with grief went back to her parents in the Sadida Kingdom. Leaving him and all their belongings at their home in Emelka. He then started trading all of what he has for news and rumors and started wandering around. He is determined to have his child back. Even if he have to lose everything else as its price.

It is my fault.

He is getting closer to the group. He can hear dragoturkeys on the path ahead. In this form his speed is unrivalled.

They will not get away, No, not this time!

He quickened his pace and left his sanity behind. He would need to keep his form and thinking too much makes him lose his concentration. He allowed the primal mind of his wild dhreller companion to take over. He simply exerted one single objective. Do not let them go. He caught up with one of his quarries and made all his muscles contract, to spring into action in one single bound. After catching up, what matters then is all instinct.

And a really powerful blow.

With the velocity he gained through running, he charged ahead and tackled the trailing dragoturkey and its rider. As the rider tumbled down his own mount, he noticed another rider carrying what seems to be a child. His enutrof mind arrested his body and transformed back to that of a man and as he fell, threw a kama with enough force to severe the rope binding the child to the dragoturkey as well as the bigger counterweight on the other side. The hoodlum company stopped and some of them confronted their lone adversary. It is six against a single old man. It was supposedly easy.  Supposedly…

“Look at Tykkus, bwahahaha, he got knocked off his turkey!” The large iop doesn’t look so concerned about the lone enutrof. He got off his dragoturkey along with another brigand.

“Shut up iopbrain, we have work to do.” Tykkus, the pandawa that was knocked off started to get up while nursing his bruised arm.

“Let us get this over with.” The cra, who got off his dragoturkey, finished stringing his bow and have already drawn an arrow and aimed upwards. He then let loose a hail of arrows. The child that fell screamed as she looks up. She was in its range.

Ephimethius, who have already jumped out of the way saw the child and instinctively jumped back in. He whistled loudly calling to him his ancient dhreller companion as he covered the young child. As the arrows started falling down with the rain, the fog kept the hoodlums from seeing the results of the attack.

“I heard a child gobbalface! We were supposed to bring them back alive! You could have waited until we retrieved the merchandise!” the pandawa exclaimed while giving the cra a pound in the head.
“Doesn’t matter. It’s one out of the eight we got. He will be happy. We just need to recover the ones in the fallen dragoturkey.”

“Well, did you kill the… URRGGHH!”

The only thing he saw was a white blur and a really heavy clawed arm hitting him hard on the face. The pandawa struggled to get up but the blur have already put himself in position with two hands together above his head. He smashed both hands down and left the pandawa sprawled unconscious on the ground.

The Iop jumped in with his left fist leading but touched nothing but air. Instead, the dhrellzerker have counted on the iop leading with a punch and grabbed his outstretched arm then smashed the iop to the ground. He mounted his adversary and started clawing, bashing and gnawing.

The cra have his bow drawn with an arrow ready but could not dare shoot. Not because his companion is nearby, but because he finally saw their target. A wet bloodied drhellzerker with red reflective eyes that is currently trained on him. In the darkness and in the rain, it was the most terrifying thing he ever saw. Slowly, the monster got off the iop and slowly inches his way to the cra all without taking his eyes off the brigand. The cra was frozen stiff.

The other hoodlums took the opportunity to dash off, leaving their downed allies on the ground. With the sight of his allies leaving him, the cra started shooting off arrows onto the monster. They all failed to reach the target whom is now running on all fours towards him. He screamed as the drhellzerker smashed his left paw on him and threw him to a nearby tree. He lost consciousness while watching in fear, the bloodied red-eyed drhellzerker walking towards him with death in its eyes as it said:

“I am sorry, it was my fault… but you all have to perish…”
